Ad ogni numero della rivista Sport Endurance EVO, l'estroso Simone recensiva un film dedicato ai cavalli. Ebbene, mai come oggi questo catalogo ci torna utile perché, nostro malgrado, abbiamo più tempo per guardare film. Il cinema era la passione di Simone, figlio d'arte di Fabrizio. BITE THE BULLET In his new film, Richard Brooks represents man’s continuous challenge with himself, his need of putting himself to the test, and that charged – up and self - destroying feeling that leads us all to pursuing and overcoming the extreme limit. Sam Clayton (Gene Hackman) has to escort the horse of an eccentric Mr. Parker to the start line of an endurance race organized by “The Western Press”. But he ends up missing the train that collects all the participants to the race, so he’s fired. Without job and without money, Clay decides to sign up for the race, his friend Sam met during the Spanish – American war signs up too together with an ex prostitute (Candice Bergen), a Mexican man, an English Gentleman, an arrogant young man and an old cowboy with heart problems. A 700 murderous miles challenge and a final prize of 2000 dollars but during the race, participants will learn that winning is not the most important thing. In his third and last western, the film director, Richard Brooks (“The last hunt” and “The Professionals”), directs a movie which can be considered unconventional, centered on the characters and their relationship with horses during the competition. Big emphasis is also given to gorgeous American landscapes considering that the film was mainly shot in Colorado, New Mexico and Nevada. There’s also a beautiful background film music. The veteran actors Hackman and Coburn reveal a great performance, they are both at the peak of their career and perfectly at ease in a western movie, they give birth to the film’s most memorable moments, handling the scene throughout the whole film. A film from other times that teaches us that sometimes the most important thing is to bite the bullet and go on! STRINGI I DENTI E VAI Richard Brooks porta in scena l’eterna sfida dell’uomo con se stesso, il bisogno di mettersi alla prova e quel sentimento adrenalinico e quasi autodistruttivo che ci porta alla ricerca del limite estremo ed a tentare di superarlo. Sam Clayton (Gene Hackman) deve scortare il cavallo dell’eccentrico signor Parker alla partenza di una corsa organizzata dal giornale “The Western Press”. Ma manca l’appuntamento con il treno che raccoglie i partecipanti e per questo viene licenziato. Senza lavoro e senza un soldo in tasca, Clay decide di iscriversi alla gara. Insieme a lui partecipano Luke Matthews (James Coburn), amico di Sam dai tempi della guerra ispano-americana, un’ex prostituta (Candice Bergen), un messicano, un gentleman inglese, un giovane arrogante e un vecchio cowboy malato di cuore. Si sfideranno per 700 massacranti miglia per il premio finale di 2000 dollari, per scoprire per strada che non sempre vincere è importante. Al suo terzo ed ultimo western, il regista Richard Brooks (“L’ultima Caccia” e “I professionisti”) dirige un film fuori dagli schemi, mettendo al centro l’analisi dei personaggi ed il rapporto tra uomini e cavalli che si intrecciano e sviluppano durante la competizione. Grande risalto viene anche data alla suggestione dei paesaggi mozzafiato del suolo americano, il film è quasi totalmente girato tra Colorado, New Mexico e Nevada, perfettamente accompagnati da una superba colonna sonora. Ottima anche la prova offerta dai veterani Hackman e Coburn. I due, giunti all’apice delle rispettive carriere e perfettamente a loro agio con il genere western, duettano che è un piacere, dando vita ai momenti più memorabili del film e reggendone la scena per quasi tutto il tempo. Una pellicola di altri tempi, per ricordarci che a volte l’unica cosa importante è stringere i denti e andare.
